For my EDCT 300 learning project I wanted to explore something that has always been an interest of mine, ASL (American Sign Language). I was in grade 12 when my interest in ASL began. Watching people do it on TV and watching videos on YouTube of people’s days being made because someone knew how to sign. My parents have always told me that I have a special connection with working with differing abilities. In my winter semester I took KIN 120: Sports and Recreation with persons with disabilities. This was my favorite class because it allowed me to work outside of my comfort zone and gain a better understanding of what it might be like to work with people with differing needs. Volunteering with Special Olympics was the highlight of this course but unfortunately got cut short due to COVID-19. Photo Credit: Elisabeth Alvarado, via Spanish Mama
