This week our task was to find a different way of sharing our progress with one another. Although I still shared my work through a YouTube video I took different steps to get there this week. Coming up next week I will Learn numbers 21-30, more common phrases and everyday signs.

In today’s society technology is advancing at a rapid speed every day. There are new games, new products, and new ways of connecting with people on the internet. Technology has allowed us to develop a new community, to where we have become addicted to our phones and computers. Through discussion in our class on May 21st, we found that we live in a society where people are active contributors to the online world. everyday we can find creations and ideas from new resources shared through social media. We live in a world where participatory culture is thriving. Photo Credit: Natalie Jacewicz, via The Blade I believe that during our education it is very important to remember that we also need to be aware of our online presence, so that it does not affect our future careers. Coming from a generation that has lived through the growth of technology has been eye opening because everyday something new is developed. It shows us that the internet is something that everyone can have easy access to worldwide. Having technology in the classroom is something that I look forward to because it will allow my students to express themselves in new ways and share their creativity with others. Technology has really changed and by the time we graduate I am sure there will be something new to try out in the technology world. creating a digital footprint for students and even educators is an important task, with this there is always going to be responsibility and room for growth. I have always had a Twitter account from 2015, but I had never used it or learnt how to use it properly. At the beginning of this course when I found out we would have to have a Twitter account I tried logging into my old one, but unfortunately, I had forgotten the username and password. With this my Twitter experience was little to none. Although I knew about Twitter because my entire family of teachers use it for their education, I never thought about it myself as a professional platform until now. "Social Media Tools" by jrhode is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 2.0Twitter in the classroom setting. When I think of using Twitter in a classroom, I think of high school kids using it in classes like history and law, etc. I think it could be used in a high school if the students were willing to put in the extra time of if it were made into some sort of assignment. Now using it in an elementary school would be harder with students because they have less access to technology and social media platforms due to age restrictions. But there are also many other ways to use technology in a school setting, for example, using it to connect with parents and guardians about upcoming school event, sharing pictures of the students working together, a way for parents to share field-trip pictures or activities with the teachers and allows teachers to share educational resources for students and parents to work on at home. Using Twitter in the classroom can have its benefits, but we have to make sure that everyone is using it with respect and not posting inappropriate stuff for everyone to see. There is a way around this to use a privacy setting but as teachers we can not control what everyone posts and shares with the school community. I believe by using inline resources it will allow students to participate in a world full of exciting and new resources and it can also help students learn the importance of online responsibility.
During these unknown times, our lives have taken quite a turn ever since COVID-19 came into the picture. Looking back in March when things started to get more serious, I never thought that so much would be taken away from us so fast. At the beginning it did not seem like a big deal to close a couple stores and schools down, so that we could kill the virus, but here we are almost 2 months later stuck in our houses and learning remotely. Many lives have been impacted from this lockdown: with the loss of jobs, I have lost 2 of my jobs due to the virus and the loss of building relationships with family and friends and even the joy of being in the classroom with the children all day and watching them grow their minds. Though many people have been impacted by this virus, they say that is could be the new “Normal” for a while. With going back in the fall to face-to-face teaching can lead to putting our students and teachers and high risk of spreading the virus because with the class sizes they are given there would be little to no room to properly show social distancing between the students and teachers. Building relationships with the students is very hard to achieve online so if we did not go back in the fall to in-person interactions then teachers would have to work that much harder to get to know their students, especially because they will be fresh batch of students. This may come as a great challenge, but there are so many great resources for teachers and students to engage in together.
Hello, my name is Hannah Magnusson! I am twenty years old and going into my third year of elementary education. I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher. I come from a household that is full of teachers form my parents to my sister. I have been a dancer and for the past 6 years I have had the opportunity to be a teacher at my dance studio. My favourite thing about teaching the kids at dance is that I get to see the excitement on their faces when they nail a step and accomplish a move they have been working on for weeks. The real rush of dance is competition season, when we get to show off our amazing routines to judges and perform for our friends and family. When it comes to using technology and blogging it allows us to gain understandings from other people viewpoints and learn new experiences in many different ways. I have used blogging for my ECS 100 and ECS 210 classes, but never gave them to much detail. I am constantly on social media plat forms like Twitter, but I never used them for educational purposes. With this class I am hoping it will challenge me to try and learn new things that could better my future teaching. I am also looking forward to building connections with new people this semester through this class.
A little more about me is that I love going exploring with my camera and capturing the beautiful world we live on. I will try to post some of my favourites at the end. I also love my dog, his name is Zuri, he is 4 years old and loves to take naps. |
Hannah MagnussonI hope to become an amazing teacher. And hopefully some day complete my Inclusive Education certificate. |
